Effect of long-term lithium therapy on renal function



Abstract
The Purpose of this study was to research for effect of long-term lithium therapy on renal function with serum creatinine, creatinine clearance, and serum ©¬2-microglobulin.
The subjects of this study were 21 patients (9 males and 12 females), who had treated lithium over 6 months and compared subjects were 18 patients (11 males and 7 females), who had never treated ithiun The summary of results were as follow:
1. Serum creatinine and (3, microglobulin levels were normal ranges but creatinine clearance was slightly reduced.
There were no significant difference between two groups.
2. There were no correlation¢¥s between lithium treatment duration and serum creatinine, creatinine clearance and serum (32 microglobulin.
In conclusion, this study found no effect of long-term lithium therapy on renal dysfunction.
